Proximo Hoops is an editorial puzzle game built from public basketball information and an original relationship-ranking model. It is designed to reward NBA memory and intuition, not statistical trivia.

How Guessing Works

  • The current game accepts NBA player guesses selected from autocomplete.
  • Every player receives one rank relative to the hidden player; lower ranks are closer.
  • Rank #1 is the hidden player. Other guesses remain useful clues, whether warmer or farther.

What Shapes a Rank

The model combines verified basketball relationships such as teammate history, shared franchises, overlapping eras, positions, colleges, nationality, and major career honors with a curated semantic profile. Familiarity can break close ties, but the game does not compare guesses through one raw stat.

Explanations summarize the strongest public relationships. Internal weights and diagnostic values are not exposed because they are implementation details, not additional player facts.

  • Career teams, seasons, positions, and profile fields are compiled from reviewed public records.
  • Reference sources include Basketball-Reference, Wikipedia, and public basketball APIs.
  • Roster and game-log records support teammate and season-overlap relationships.
  • Puzzle rankings, hint logic, canonical profiles, and similarity outputs are original to Proximo Hoops.

Coverage is strongest for established NBA players. Very short careers, older records, recent transactions, aliases, and incomplete source fields can require manual review.

Daily Puzzle & Ranking Freshness

The daily puzzle changes at 00:00 UTC. Once a puzzle answer is stored, that answer remains authoritative. Rankings are precomputed and cached for reliable play; newly approved data corrections appear when the relevant ranking artifact is generated or deliberately refreshed.

Corrections

Submitted reports remain private. We verify a report against project records and supporting sources before changing player-facing data. Confirmed resolutions are published here without names, emails, messages, or other submitter information.

Resolution: Restored the verified 2001-02 season and corrected the displayed career span.
